Kudos to St. Francis College faculty members Professors Wendy Galgan and Eric Platt for being in a class of their own.
Professor Galgan, chairwoman of the English Department at St. Francis College, received the Educator of Excellence Award from the New York State English Council, while Professor Platt was elected president of the New York State Association of European Historians.
Professor Galgan’s award was presented at the council’s annual conference. The organization honors educators from kindergarten through higher education. It focuses on the teaching of English Language Arts, supporting professional development and best practices in education.
Professor Platt previously served as veep at the association before being elected president of the organization. The association was founded more than 60 years ago, and despite its name, includes historians from across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The organization fosters the study of European history from earliest times to the present.
The professors can now add esteemed Standing Os to their achievements.

Standing O is putting out the welcome mat for Famous Footwear’s new location at Kings Plaza Mall. The shoe giant opened the store on Dec. 18, offering brand-name merchandise at great prices, a one-stop-shop for the entire family, a rewards program, and rows and rows of fancy footwear.
“The decision to open another new store in Brooklyn was based on a recognized consumer need,” said company president Rick Ausick.
“We look forward to delivering a great footwear shopping destination,” he said. “We strive to deliver great brands and styles for families who are looking for brand names at affordable prices.”
Customers are in for great shopping, Ausick added.
“Our in-store experience will prove you don’t have to compromise style or amazing customer service when shopping for great values,” he said.
Put your best foot forward and visit Famous Footwear first this holiday season.

Cheers to Hatzolah Ambulance Service and Arna Lipkind, district manager of NYC Council! The pair was honored at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center’s annual Hanukkah Breakfast on Dec. 10 at Kingsbrook’s Synagogue.
Food for thought was on the menu: Henna White, board chairwoman of the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and mistress of ceremonies, spoke of the importance of the Festival of Lights. Rabbi Michoel Chazan director of Chaplaincy Services shared his thoughts about the spiritual meaning, while Rabbi Kalman Sodden spoke about the hospital’s 90-year history.
Standing O offers congratulations and bids belated Hanukkah wishes.
