Coney Island
Congrats to Police Officer Albert Mammon who selflessly saved the life of a teenage boy while on vacation in Florida. Our man in blue was honored by Assemblyman William Colton (D–Gravesend) with a plaque and a proclamation at the assemblyman’s office on March 29.
Borough son Albert was relaxing in the sun and surf when he heard panicked screaming coming from the ocean. Going directly into hero mode, our man in blue rushed to the aid of 17-year-old Christopher Tran who was struggling to stay afloat in the choppy Atlantic waters. Without a moment’s hesitation, our Finest jumped in, swam to the teen in distress, and brought him safely to shore.
Assemblyman Colton thanked the hero cop.
“Officer Mammon’s courageousness led him to save the life of a young man who was having trouble swimming in the ocean,” he said. “His bravery exemplifies the many brave heroes who serve as New York City’s police officers.”
Albert joined the NYPD’s Explorer Program as a teen and then volunteered as an auxiliary police officer. He eventually was sworn to the badge and is now a 14-year veteran of the force. He currently serves as the auxiliary program coordinator at the 60th Precinct.
Standing O gives a deserved shout-out to Officer Mammon for his bravery on vacation, and for protecting our community on the job at home.
