Eva’s a winner
Break out the test tubes, Poly Prep Country Day School senior Eva Philips won first place in the City University of New York’s science and engineering fair.
The talented teen’s research on the “Genotoxicity Potential of Nutraceuticals” wowed the crowd at the American Museum of Natural History, where she made her presentation on March 25.
Standing O is lucky to spell it right, let alone know what it is, but this teen knows it inside out, and upside down, said her teacher.
“Ordinarily, students with this level of research have mentors that have well-established laboratories, but Eva a great job on her own,” said Peter Rice.
The fair is the city’s largest high school research competition, with several hundred high school students participating, and Standing O pal Eva trounced the competition with her skinny on appetite suppressants.
“I chose to focus on weight loss supplements in particular because, since they are meant to help someone lose weight, I have reason to believe that they are doing some kind of harm to your body in order to achieve that,” she told Standing O.
Standing O offers high praise to the budding Noble Prize winner.
