Brooklyn College is hosting “Stitch by Stitch: Works in Fabric,” a colorful art exhibition of 25 quilts crafted by members of the Quilters Guild of Brooklyn, on display at the Brooklyn College Library at 2900 Bedford Avenue, through August 22.
The library is open Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 9 p.m.
Since the earliest days of the Colonies, quilting has been a quintessential American craft and now, has become a medium of artistic expression. Although modern quilts abide by the same quilt-making tenets, each quilt on display has its own particular style — some conform to traditional quilting standards, others exhibit new techniques, or include social or political statements.

Founded in 1993 to encourage, support and promote the art of quilting, the 200-member Quilters Guild of Brooklyn provides a forum for local quilters to exchange information and ideas and to share their enthusiasm for the craft. Members represent all ages and levels of quilting experience.
