All good things, including a nine-game winning streak, come to an end — but at least they sometimes come to an end when your rival for the New York-Penn League’s lone wild-card slot loses, too.
The Cyclones looked ugly in this shellacking by the Ironbirds, and a win could’ve put that playoff berth away, thanks to a loss by the Jamestown Jammers.
Starter Jenry Meija wasn’t that bad, giving up four earned runs on only four hits in seven innings, but he was done in by two solo homers and a wild pitch of his own that yielded a run in the seventh.
The lone Cyclone run came in the eighth when a Kirk Nieuwenhuis groundout plated Josh Satin, who had doubled. Three Aberdeen pitchers limited the Cyclones to just four hits.
Still, the once-dead Clones remained one-half game in front of the Jammers with just four left to play. The Cyclones head to Hudson Valley for a game against the Renegades tonight before returning to Keyspan Park for the final three games of the season.
