Students fortuitously bump into Rudy during school trip

After a school trip in Manhattan, Public School 255 fourth graders in Ashley Venturino’s class got an unexpected lesson in civics when, upon leaving the building, Venturino spotted former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

In an effort to make history come alive for her students, Venturino introduced herself to “America’s Mayor,” asked if he would speak to her students and, of course, take a couple of photos with the group.

Mayor Giuliani was only too happy to pose for photos with the class, and press the flesh with the students, among them Angelica Zverovich.

Once back at the school, Venturino asked her students to learn more about the former mayor, which they did by Googling him. Noor Fatima found out that he was the Mayor of New York City during 9/11, and Tymur Kholodnyak learned that he is a New York Yankees fan.

PS 255-The Barbara Reing School is located at 1866 East 17th Street in the Homecrest section.
