A bevy of seersucker suits swirled through a crowd as City Reliquary fans danced in the museum’s hideaway garden, celebrating the Williamsburg museum’s first ever Summer Benefit.
The event included a silent art auction, live music from the Lucky Chops Brass Band of Laguardia H.S., records spun by DJ Dirty Finger and The Stacher, and a date auction featuring Reliquary volunteers and real Williamsburg firefighters.
City Councilmember Diana Reyna kicked off the ceremonies by presenting an $18,000 grant to the museum to help throw new exhibits and continue operating in the Williamsburg community.
“I literally stumbled into the Reliquary museum when I was going into the gym,” said Will Florentino, an aide to Reyna. “They had a lot of really good artifacts accumulated and they have come a long ways from being just a storefront. I was surprised with what was contained within and it is a hidden treasure in the community.”
Many of the representatives of the Reliquary’s seersucker-clad Board of Directors, including Dave Herman, Bil Scanga, and Matt Levy, were present to oversee the evening’s festivities. Liz Gwinn, chair of the Benefit Committee, hoped the event would raise $2,500.
The City Reliquary is located at 370 Metropolitan Avenue.
