The Sunset Park BID will be hosting its annual 15-block Street Festival September 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Fifth Avenue from 44th to 59th streets.
Hundreds of vendors, local businesses and not-for-profits will offer their goods and services as festival-goers enjoy bargains in ethnic foods, ethnic music, jewelry, clothing, gift items, pony rides, games, along with free HIV screenings, child ID kits, popcorn, cotton candy, face paintings, pretzels, spin art and general information from elected officials and local organizations.
This year the festival will present two stages with all day live entertainment. On the 44th Street stage, produced by Festival VIP and sponsored by Wellcare, such Latin artists as Amanecer Norteño, Grupo Clase 3, Yairasu, Grupo Reencuentro and Redys de Mi Tierra will perform. A special mystery celebrity from radio station Caribe Vision will delight crowds.
The 54th Street community stage, produced by Fredy Soberanis, will host such local talent as Young Dancers in Repertory, Tropical Image Dancers, La Salsa de Hoy, Latin Jazz Band and Martial Arts demonstrations from AmeriKick. A tribute to the 60th Anniversary of the Hula Hoop will feature a giveaway of 300 hula hoops donated by Health Max Pharmacy.
One whole block, from 45th to 46th streets, will contain giant inflatable rides from Lifetime Vending & Amusement, which will be free to the children.
Extra special offerings of the festival will include the Brooklyn Public Library’s Bookmobile, NYC Transit Authority’s Vintage Jackie Gleason bus, Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s reptile collection and the ever-popular FDNY Smokehouse.
