Talk about a recession special: Next weekend, the best things in Gowanus will be free.
On Saturday, May 30, the waterfront venue BKLYN Yard, 388−400 Carroll Street, will be transformed into an al fresco —and completely free — swapping experience.
The boutique will feature hundreds of “records, clothes, household items and regretful ‘impulse buys,’” all ready, willing, and able to find new homes, organizers said.
“This one day event celebrates the joys of finding treasure in someone else’s trash,” Jenny Gottstein of event organizer MeanRed Productions said in a statement. Other organizers include FreeNYC, Newmindspace and RefugeNYC.
Attendees are asked to bring any old or unwanted items to the event, and potentially leave with new objects of desire. BKLYN Yard will be divided into departments, each “curated” by different individuals or organizations.
Volunteers will sort the donations, and a “roving stylist” will be on hand to make wardrobe suggestions, organizers said.
Refreshments will be available, and local DJs will provide the soundtrack to the entire pop−up swap shop experience.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations can be dropped off prior to the event, or left at the door. Leftover items will be distributed to non−profit organizations throughout the city.
