The coveted Silver Beaver Award was bestowed upon a distinguished roster of recipients when the Brooklyn Council Boy Scouts of America held its annual leader recognition dinner in Bay Ridge.
The kudos were part of a program of rites and festivity at the Bay Ridge Manor, 476 76th Street, where honorees received the highest award conferred by a local council upon a scout leader, district committee member, or member of the executive board, for their youth advocacy and service.
Silver Beaver awards were presented to: Thomas Torre, vice president, Metro Fuel Oil, and chair of Greenpoint−Williamsburg Toast to Scouting; MaryAnn Fappiano, managing director, Societe Generale, and president of Brooklyn Council Boy Scouts of America; Donna Smith−Jordan, Mount Sinai Hospital, Queens, and assistant cubmaster, Pack 309, Church of St. Mark in Crown Heights; and Gayette Greaves, director of Royalties, Carlin America, Inc., and assistant cubmaster, Pack 309.
Merit awards were presented to Breukelen District’s Kevin Hellebusch, Michael Matarazzo, Neil Poland and Robby Reiss; and Lenape Bay District’s Christopher Callahan, Michael Khiabani, William Mandile, Colin Pinnavaia and Giovanni Procelli.
In addition, volunteers from all districts were honored, and the family of late community activist Robert Buonvino, were presented with a posthumous award for his service.
