’TARZAN’ SWINGS

’TARZAN’ SWINGS

For its final event of the season, Celebrate
Brooklyn will screen the classic 1932 flick "Tarzan The
Ape Man" on Sunday. The film will be accompanied by savvy
electronic music producer Mocean Worker (pictured) performing
the world premiere of his new score.

"The film hardly has any music," said Celebrate Brooklyn
assistant curator Olli Chanoff. "It’s a blank canvas for
him to work with."

The music of Mocean Worker, whose real name is Adam Dorn, can
be described as genre-bending, playfully incorporating elements
of jazz, funk and electronica.

His father is legendary producer Joel Dorn, who worked with Roberta
Flack and John Coltrane, giving Adam a wide variety of music
to be influenced by at an early age.

Mo-Wo, for short, followed in his father’s producing footsteps,
but is probably best known in the world of television and film
scoring. You can hear his music on hit shows like "The Sopranos,"
"Six Feet Under" and "Queer Eye for the Straight
Guy" and big budget films like "Mr. & Mrs. Smith,"
"Bewitched," "The Bourne Supremacy" and "Tomb
Raider 2."

When asked about what motivated Celebrate Brooklyn to give Mocean
Worker this commission for "Tarzan," Chanoff said,
"He had worked with us in the past and we loved what he’s
done. He has this great encyclopedic knowledge of jazz music."

The folks over at Celebrate Brooklyn haven’t even heard the finished
score yet, but they say it will include not only Mo-Wo’s own
tracks but classic songs like "The Theme from Love Boat"
and Kool and the Gang’s "Jungle Boogie."

"I guarantee there will be a lot of surprises," predicted
Chanoff. "It’ll be a great sendoff."

"Tarzan the Ape Man" with Mocean Worker, preceded by
a performance by Joan As Police Woman, will begin at 7:30 pm
on Aug. 6 at the Prospect Park band shell (Ninth Street at Prospect
Park West in Park Slope). Admission is free, with a suggested
donation of $3. For more information call (718) 855-7882 or visit
