Peer pressure took on a novel turn when 40 juniors, who interned for business, non-profit and government groups, handed down the torch of professionalism to their younger classmates during a model job fair at the Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies (BCS).
The students had received the sought-after internships from 18 organizations, proving that teens learn best when working to address real-world issues alongside professionals.
Workers from multi-million dollar companies and from many Brooklyn organizations, who had helped the students compete in a shrinking summer-jobs market, were on hand to evaluate their interviewing techniques.
The job fair began with a student news conference at the school, 610 Henry Street.
Among the participating businesses were: The Food Network, NY 1, Kiss + Cathcart Architects, the Prospect Park Zoo, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, the HEAT program and the New York City Comptroller’s Office.
