The Gershbein family will no longer dine at Applebee’s. Red Lobster? We never ate there anyway. Tried it twice and didn’t care for what and how they served. We have switched from Crest toothpaste to Colgate. Folger’s coffee will no longer appear on our shopping list. We will never again fill a prescription at CVS.Instead of shipping packages to my son via UPS, I will drive up the block to FedEx. No thank you to Campbell soups. Some of the others on the shelf look tasty.Tylenol for pain? It’s not aseffective as Aleve anyway. We’re buying the Eveready brand instead of Duracell.
Put them all together and you’ll note that I am turning my back on those companies that were pressured into dropping their sponsorship of the Glenn Beck Show. This is not about whether you and I like or dislike Beck. Don’t like the man? You have every right to turn him off. You also have every right to boycott the companies that sponsor his show. That’s the American way. Like it or not, I have that same right. While you and your organizations pressured companies to jump ship, I’m doing my thing to pressure them also the other way. The Gershbeins are also practicing that American freedom known as the boycott.

Until whatsisname leaped up on the stage and rudely interrupted her acceptance speech at some award show that I wouldn’t watch anyway, the chances are that I would never have heard of Taylor Swift. A couple of replays and a few commentaries about the outburst and my curiosity had me listening to some of her records. Hey %u2013 she’s good.Get yourself a copy of ‘Fearless’ and you’ll become a believer like me.

My president says that ACORN “is not something I’ve followed closely.” He added that he didn’t know anything about ACORN receiving federal funds.I believe him. I really do. I also really believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.
Before anybody way up there in the upper echelon of government permits himself to be interviewed, he is thoroughly coached on the questions that may be asked. His staff instructs him %u2013 “If they ask that, you will respond with this.”
His hollow reply about ACORN was probably the most rehearsed answer of the day.
Oh %u2013 and I also believe in the Tooth Fairy.

I am StanGershbein@Bellsouth.netclosing on a sad note. Longtime Brooklyn resident and great friend, Charles Cappellino, MD, passed away this week. Besides being a down-to-earth nice guy, Dr. Charlie, as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, was the most charitable person I‘ve ever met.Anybody can write a check, give two pints of blood and volunteer his time to better his community. My friend did all that and more. There were times he closed his practice and flew, at his own expense, to Third World nations to give his skills and knowledge to those in need.
Carol and I join the vast chorus who sing Dr. Charlie’s praises and offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Louise, and family.
