The greener way to have lots of family fun

Mom, dad and the kids joined festive forces with like-minded revelers and headed to the Red Hook waterfront for an arts festival, presented by Dance Theatre Etcetera.

The free frolic transformed Louis J. Valentino, Jr. Park and Pier, Coffey and Ferris streets, into a boulevard of spring fun, jam-packed with attractions, amusements and activities for the whole family and debuting a showcase of local talent.

Beat box and spoken word artists shared the spotlight with puppeteers, afro-beat ensemble and acrobatic salsa performers while free canoe and kayak rides, a bio-diesel demonstration lured eco-friendly thrill seekers.

This year’s festival was entitled, “Growing Arts, Going Green” and partnered with environmentally-conscious community organizations, which delivered the green lowdown – from greening your community and home to ecological workshops and underwater exhibits, plus tips on recycling, composting and gardening.
