Easter came early for these spring chickens.
Local institutions held two Easter egg hunts this weekend — the first at our Lady Of Grace Church on April 5 and then at Marine Park on April 6. Pickers’ parents say it was great to see their kids playing outside after a long winter.
“It was colorful — full of children’s energy,” said Diana Aguilera of Bath Beach, whose daughter Andrea Espinoza participated in the church’s Saturday egg hunt.
Kids at the Our Lady of Grace hunt got to trade in eggs for prizes. Espinoza won a toy microphone that mimics what she says, her mother said.
Even with egg hunts, toys, and egg painting, kids found inventive ways to have fun, Aguilera said.
“They were all rolling down this hill,” she said, referring to a hill in front of the 77-year-old house of worship.
State Sen. Marty Golden hosted a separate hunt in Marine Park on Sunday.
There, kids had another chance to hunt down eggs in exchange for prizes, said Sandy Korogluyev, whose son Dylan hunted for the colorful plastic eggs and got his face patined like a spider.
Some of the eggs even had a raffle ticket for big prizes like a bicycle, she said.
Korogluyev said Dylan didn’t win a bike, but that’s okay.
“We got candy, and I figure that’s all the kids need to be happy,” she said.
