A heart-wrenching play that exposes the bizarre ethos behind small-town homophobia hits the stage at Heights Players on March 2.
“The Laramie Project” — Moisés Kaufman’s acclaimed tale about the real-life murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student in Wyoming — offers a documentary-style peek at the events surrounding the chilling 1998 crime.
“It pushes the limits of theater to find truth,” said Director Robert Weinstein. “It forces the audience to look in the mirror.”
Part crime thriller, part sociological study, the sound-bite-driven play is a a bold stylistic departure for the Heights Players theater, which often sticks with light-hearted classics. It’s a risk worth taking.
