Thief snatches woman’s wallet while she shops

An unknown perp swiped the wallet of a woman who was shopping in an 86th Street department store on Aug. 18 after she briefly left it unattended.

The woman told police she placed the wallet on a counter in the store between Fourth and Fifth avenues, and when she turned back to the counter, it was gone.

The sneaks used her credit cards soon after to buy two MetroCards at the 86th Street and Fourth Avenue train station, according to investigators. Police are reviewing security cameras outside the store.

Money hungry

A thief stole, forged, and cashed two money orders valued at $1108.49 from a mailbox at on 68th Street on Aug. 17.

The woman who originally placed the money orders in a mailbox near Fourth Avenue to pay her credit card bills discovered the larceny when she saw that her bills were unpaid. When she reported the theft to authorities, police obtained copies of the forged money orders from the banks, according to a report.

Lightening the wallet

A bandit stole a wallet from the counter of a bodega on 72nd Street on the morning of Aug. 15.

The owner of the wallet left it there briefly while he continued shopping in the store near Third Avenue, according to authorities, and returned to find both the wallet and his credit card stolen. The perp is still at large, but the victim said he has noticed no unauthorized charges to his credit card charges.
