Three cheers for Bishop Kearney

As they approached the mat, the Bishop Kearney High School cheerleaders savored the bittersweet taste of the final performance of the season.

Although they were smiling, and ready to jump and tumble for the judges, the team wondered if their hard work and countless hours of practice would pay off. They had been rewarded the week before, when they placed second in a challenging competition at New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure, but they didn’t let their success make them too comfortable and worked even harder to perfect their routine.

Under the watchful eyes of Kearney alum coaches Victoria Viviani and Krystina Macca, the girls bonded together to gracefully chisel and sculpt their moves. During CHSAA final competition at Christ the King High School, their performance was a definite crowd pleaser.

They hit every stunt and there was precision in every movement. Their hours of gymnastic training at Aviator Sports definitely were obvious, as members had grown stronger and advanced in tumbling.

The girls took home the second place trophy, a significant accomplishment for a team who had been ranking third in a three-year streak.

The squad left Christ the King proud of their performance, knowing that they had put on the best performance possible and that their dedication made it all happen.

Although the squad is sorry to see the seniors graduate, especially captains Jennifer Romano, Gabrielle Sabatino and Jennifer Terranova, they are looking forward to next season and future successes.

Bishop Kearney High School is located at 2202 60th Street.
