Three civilians rescued from early morning Canarsie fire

Firefighters rescued three civilians from an early morning blaze in Canarsie on Monday, officials said.

The fire broke out around 2:20 a.m. at 1120 East 81st St., between Avenue K and Avenue L, in a three-story brick building, according to the FDNY. Crews from Engine Company 257 and Tower Ladder 170 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the first floor.

Approximately 60 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, using two hose lines to bring the fire under control by 3:05 a.m.

The three victims were transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said. Searches of the building turned up no additional victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshal’s Office.
