The new Saturday hours at the half-price Broadway ticket booth in Metrotech are a hit.
The TKTS booth, which opened in June at Jay Street and the Myrtle Avenue promenade, handled more than twice its usual business for same-day discount tickets to on- and off-Broadway shows during its first Saturday sellathon on Nov. 8.
The weekends are a prime time to hit the Great White Way, but the ticket window was closed on Saturdays because its Metrotech building is closed on weekends.
Despite a steady downpour, 135 ticket-buyers bought ducats by 2 pm — quite a contrast to the weekly average of 54 customers a day.
“Today’s been very good, even with the rain,” said ticket agent Mike Eameanella.
For Cobble Hill resident Jackie Mitleider, the new hours boosted her rainy day mood after she and an out-of-town friend scored discount tickets to “13,” a new coming-of-age show about a group of teenagers.
“We wanted to see a show — it’s something you have to do when you have a friend in town,” Mitleider said. “We saw that there was a TKTS booth in Brooklyn, so we came by.”
Also available on Saturday were half-priced seats at crowd-pleasers like “Young Frankenstein,” “Grease,” “Spamalot,” “Chicago” and “The Little Mermaid.”
The Brooklyn TKTS also sells tickets to performing arts venues in Brooklyn, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, and St. Ann’s Warehouse.
