It’s your chance to help sweep the streets clean.
The Madison-Marine-Homecrest Civic Association is inviting residents to help plan a week-long litter-cleanup campaign across the neighborhood at their monthly meeting on Oct. 18.
The clean up is slated to take place from Nov. 25–Dec. 1, spanning Stuart Street to East 12th Street, from Avenue P to Avenue U, and the civic association’s president said he hopes to get as many locals as possible involved to help make the streets more presentable.
“If people want to have a clean environment to live in and aren’t happy with the coffee cups and litter all over the place, we encourage them to join. Let’s make an effort to clean up the neighborhood around here,” said Ed Jaworski.
The civic association wild hold the public meeting on Oct. 18 at 7:30 pm at the Carmine Carro Community Center in Marine Park and has invited a representative from the city’s Department of Sanitation to speak.
The principals of Madison High School, Marine Park Junior High, and Cunningham Junior High will also attend, and Jaworski hopes that this will spread the message of keeping the streets clean to students and their families.
“We’ve invited the principals from the local schools to get students involved, get the message home, and make them not litter on their way to and from school,” he said, adding that the effort will be more extensive than the usual cleanups that happen over the course of one day and on one block.
“It’s going to be ambitious, but you’ve got to try it to make things better,” he said.
