Talk about a dust-up.
A mini-tornado tore up the infield at Williamsburg’s McCarren Park on Sunday afternoon as a crowd of stunned park-goers looked on — and documented the weather anomaly on their smartphones.
“Holy cow!” said witness Michael Gambale into his phone as he recorded and a man sprinted towards the dust devil. “No, don’t go in the middle! Holy s—!”
The runner apparently made it out intact, as another clip shows, and Gambale hadn’t lost his sense of astonishment when we caught up with him the following day, though he was more level-headed about the risk the freaky funnel posed.
“It was pretty cool,” the Greenpointer said. “I could tell that it was not something dangerous, like a real tornado.”
Gambale was hanging out with friends that afternoon, enjoying the nice weather and playing kickball, when suddenly it got windy.
Dust devils form most often in arid areas on hot, dry days when the ground heats up, according to our pals at the Weather Channel.
