Two perps, one cop, two collars

A good collar

A cop from the 76th Precinct chased down two thugs who had just bashed and robbed an old man on Bond Street, nabbing both of the bandits after a lengthy foot chase on Feb. 12.

The incident began with a bang at around 9:30 am when the two perps beat up and mugged a 65-year-old man as he left a parking garage between Union and President streets. The thieves fled west on President Street with the senior’s wallet — and the $2,400 inside it.

But Officer Oliver Lopez quickly got on the case, and ran after the two punks, age 21 and 18. He caught both of them near Smith Street, and the victim identified them as his muggers, cops said.

Kid mugged

A 17-year-old stole an iPod from a kid on his way to school on Van Brunt Street on Feb. 9 — but he didn’t get to use the music device for very long before he was arrested.

The 13-year-old told police that he was between Commerce and Verona streets at around 8:20 am when an older boy approached and said, “Gimme your iPod or I’m going to stab you.”

The youngster complied, and the perp fled — practically into the arms of Officer Charles Chaplar, who made the collar.

Ice burgs

There were at two burglaries in the area on Feb. 9. Here’s a roundup:

• A man who lives on Henry Street between Baltic and Kane streets told police that he was not home between 2:20 and 8 pm — and returned to find that his two iPods, DVD player, laptop, iPod speaker system and $60 were missing.

• Another burglary took place between 9 and 10 pm, when a 35-year-old man said he was not in his Second Place apartment. When he returned to the unit, which is between Clinton and Court streets, he discovered that two laptops and an iPod were gone.
