Tree hacked
A thief stole construction tools from the site of a future luxury hotel near N. 11th Street on Feb. 21.
The perp broke into the Wythe Avenue site after 3 pm and took two drills, while his friends spray painted a bitchin’ mural of a dragon on the fifth floor.
When the construction manager returned at 7 am the next day, he found the tools were gone and his building had some new artwork.
The site is under construction by Two Trees, a DUMBO-based development firm.
Los siruelos
A thief stole $7,000 from a Manhattan Avenue grocery store on Feb. 20.
The manager locked up his shop near Box Street at 11 pm, and shortly afterwards, a thief kicked down a backyard door and took the cash from two registers.
The road rage
At least three cars — including one belonging to the neighborhood’s City Councilman — were stolen:
• A perp stole a Dodge on Frost Street at 4 am on Feb. 23, waking its owner, who spotted the thief drive off towards Manhattan Avenue.
• A thief swiped a Mercury from Russell Street near Driggs Avenue between 8:30 pm on Feb. 23 and 8:30 the next morning.
• Councilman Steve Levin’s 11-year-old Honda Civic was swiped from Meeker Avenue early on Feb. 26. The incident was part of a trying day for the freshman lawmaker. At around the same time, his Atlantic Avenue office was being broken into, though nothing was stolen there.
