The bride wore white, the groom a lush shtreimel topper and the two held hands like newlyweds during their mock nuptials at Scharf’s Ateret Avot Senior Residence in Midwood.
The re-enacted wedding of Mille and Nat Stender, who have actually been married for 61 years, was part of the rollicking finale of a spring festival at the senior facility, 1410 East 10th Street, where residents were lauded for participating in a cornucopia of contests – from bowling to basketball to trivia – throughout the eight-to-10-week extravaganza, amassing points along the way.
The seniors with the most points were hailed with medals and other awards during a ceremony after the mock wedding.
Director of Recreation Alan Magill marveled at the elders’ “can-do spirit,” adding that “They, themselves, were front and forward in putting on the events.”
