Unhinged woman arrested after hammer attack

A member of the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit went on a fire escape outside a home on Lincoln Place between Seventh and Eighth avenues as the team tried to take a woman into custody Tuesday.

Cops were reportedly called by a neighbor who claimed that the unnamed woman had attacked her front door with a hammer.

Responding officers tried to calm the resident down, but she refused to come out and instead started belting out opera melodies at the top of her lungs, according to witnesses.

The woman was declared a barricaded EDP (Emotionially Disturbed Person) and Emergency Service Unit cops were called to pull the woman out.

An air bag was inflated in case the woman attempted to jump, but it was never needed, officials said.

The woman was taken into custody without incident following a two hour stand-off. As of this writing, she was being observed at a local hospital.
