Leon Freilich, the poet laureate of Park Slope, heard about developer Joe Sitt’s latest scheme for Coney Island and had this lyrical reaction, titled, “In the Cards”:
Coney Island developer Joe Sitt
Will not change the amusement Mecca a whit.
Rides and games will even be surpassed,
Bigger and better, more varied and more vast.
Mondo condo? Erase that from your mind;
Awful how real-estate men are maligned!
Time-shares and high rises in the mix?
Funhouse trips to frighten visiting hicks.
City subsidies — a 100 mil —
Guarantee that Coney Island will
In Sitt’s hands remain The Place for fun.
Ready for Three-Card Monte, anyone?
