Very quiet night for Clone bats in 5-1 loss

State College 5
Cyclones 1

July 24 at State College

It had to happen sometime — after scoring 32 runs in three games, the Cyclones’ bats finally went silent.

And silence certainly equalled death in this game.

The Brooks did get their hits — seven in all — but always managed to kill rallies at the worst time.

In the first, a Richard Lucas double with two outs put runners on second and third, but Brian Harrison grounded out.

Harrison also grounded into a double play in the third to end a scoring chance.

Down two runs in the fourth, the Cyclones got their only run on Travis Taijeron’s fourth homer of the year.

The Clones again loaded the bases in the eighth, but Nelfi Zapata’s groundout ended the threat.

In the field, the Cyclones made two errors, leading to unearned runs.

It was a bad night all around.

The Cyclones are home vs. Connecticut Tigers at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] on July 27 at 7 pm. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
