Violence in Vinegar Hill
An area couple was found dead in a Sands Street apartment in a murder-suicide on New Year’s Eve.
Officials said that the 43-year-old man and the 41-year-old woman, who had not been named as this paper went to press, were found dead in the apartment near Gold Street at 10:20 p.m. on December 31.
Both victims had gunshot wounds to their heads, officials said. The gun was found next to the man’s body, leaving investigators to believe that the male had shot his female friend before taking his own life.
Fulton fiend sought
Police are looking for a heavy-handed thug who tried to force a 27-year-old woman to fork over her handbag during a recent exchange.
The woman told police that she was nearing the corner of Fulton Street and Lawrence Street while on her lunch break at 1:20 p.m. on December 23 when the suspect, described as a hulking six-foot-six black male in his thirties, grabbed her and forced her against a building.
“Give me your f–king purse!” the man seethed as he squeezed the woman’s right wrist.
Police said the man ran off after realizing that people were watching him.
Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.

Jewelry jack
Nearly $4,000 in jewelry was swiped from a Columbia Heights home as a woman and her family went away for the holidays.
The victim said that when she had left for her trip on December 21 her jewelry box was left in a chest in the bathroom.
When she returned on December 27, her jewelry box was missing, the woman told police, adding that her housekeeper was the only one who had access to the house. When interviewed, the housekeeper said that she had let in the woman’s driver while she was away.
Cops were told that this was not the first time her home was pilfered. Three years earlier $10,000 disappeared from the home, the woman said.
Fast on his feet
A quick-moving thief snagged a 21-year-old woman’s purse just as she walked out of a local bank.
The woman said that she had just left the Chase Bank and was nearing the corner of Nevins Street at 3:30 p.m. on December 22 and Flatbush Avenue when the thief snatched the purse right from her left hand.
In a matter of moments, the woman lost $200 and her Social Security card, cops were told.
Jewelry case swipe
Over 20 tennis bracelets valued at $25,000 were removed from a Hanover Place jewelry store when a thief decided to take the path of least resistance and stormed off with the store’s display case.
Workers at NY Jewelry near Fulton Street were going about their business at 12:50 p.m. on December 24 when an unidentified man ran off with the entire display.
Cops were still looking for the thief as this paper went to press.
Drug heist
An undetermined amount of prescription drugs were stolen from a pharmacy inside an Atlantic Avenue Walgreens.
Workers at the chain pharmacy said that while the store near Third Avenue was open at 8 a.m. on December 26, the pharmacy was still closed.
That didn’t deter two males from walking into the store, prying the pharmacy’s roll down gate and swiping the drugs.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward.
