Karen O will take DUMBO for a wild ride this month, in her mysterious new “psycho opera” — a performance that will bring together members of the Raconteurs and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and even actress Lili Taylor for a phantasmagoria centered around teenage angst.
“Stop the Virgens” will rock St. Ann’s Warehouse starting on Oct. 12 — with brand-new anthems, Christian Joy-designed costumes and dreamy, pyschedelic sets.
The producers have been mum on the plot (except to the New York Times, f–k you very much), but Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O offered a tiny glimpse into the drama last month in a statement.
“I’m hoping to create an original live experience,” she said. “It should feel like a psychedelic ride laced with catharsis. There is emotional cost to our narrative, so we’re aiming to engage the audience.”
The star-studded spectacle also boasts a cameo by Beastie Boys producer Money Mark. Need another reason? It’s being directed by Pulitzer-nominated playwright Adam Rapp.
“It’s aiming to have all the good stuff of escapist entertainment,” Karen O said. “With a few sucker punches to the gut along the way.”
“Stop the Virgens” at St. Ann’s Warehouse [38 Water St. between Dock and Main streets in DUMBO, (718) 834-8794], Oct. 12-22. Tickets $45-$75. For info, visit www.stannswarehouse.org.
