Visitation Academy Middle School students delivered the lowdown on “Ecology and the Environment” when the school held its Annual Math/Science/Technology project for grades five to eight.
A variety of topics were researched and presented, such as global warming, carbon “footprints,” deforestation in the rainforests, ice floats in Antarctica, polar ice caps, the recycling of materials into various products, honeybees and CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder), acid rain, and more.
The Alumnae Room at Visitation Academy, 8902 Ridge Boulevard, was filled with excitement as the students displayed their science projects — an extensive summary of what they had learned — for fellow students and parents to absorb.
Wearing their Visitation Academy finest, each group was eager to talk about their assignments and to share their knowledge with those who attended.
One project, in particular, which wowed spectators, showed how you could turn plastic bags into bracelets, a T-shirt into an over-the-shoulder pocket book, bottle caps into an on-the-belt fashion statement, bracelets from the tops of plastic bottles, and old license plates made into a round pocketbook.
