Big-hearted boroughites teamed up with like-minded benefactors to boost the stricken and survivors, alike, during the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay for Life benefit at St. Francis College.
The annual signature event for the ACS drew a large crowd of participants to the learning institute, 180 Remsen Street, where they walked the track in relay style to raise money for cancer research and support programs.
Teams of individuals representing corporations, clubs, neighborhoods, churches, families and cancer patients were among the walkers.
Illuminated luminerias, inscribed with the names of deceased loved ones, were placed around the track for the culminating ceremony, and entertainment was provided by the college’s dance team.
Since 1985, Relay for Life has spread to more than 4,700 communities, nationwide and has become a worldwide movement in more than 20 countries around the world.
