War Veteran’s salute – Council to hold parade, invocation and more

Members of the United War Veteran’s Council of New York will honor veterans Nov. 11 with a parade an invocation, and an annual Hospitality Street.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting for approximately one hour, members will pay tribute to all service members at Madison Square Park/Eternal Light Monument located at 5th Avenue, between 23rd and 26th streets in Manhattan. The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited as well as a 21 Gun Salute, speeches and ending at 11 a.m. with the ringing of church bells signifying the wreathe laying in front of the monument.

Promptly at 11 a.m. the parade will kick off with elected officials, dignitaries and the Grand Marshals taking the lead. The line of march begins at 5th Avenue, and 23rd Street and continues to 57th Street and 5th Avenue.

This year it is expected that 23,000 plus will participate as well as military vehicles, floats, bands, and horse cavalry brigades.

There will also be a ceremony at the Intrepid beginning at 10 a.m.. with a contingent of veterans to join in the in-progress parade along 5th Avenue.

Completing festivities of the day will be a Hospitality Street, 56th Street between 5th and 6th avenues where the street will be closed to traffic and participants can partake of the various booths along the way.
