A miscreant stole a “master key” to mailboxes from a postal carrier on Monday.
The off-duty postal worker was in the lobby of his apartment building on Ridge Boulevard near 93rd Street at 1:50 pm when the suspect walked toward him with his hand in his jacket pocket and claimed he had a gun, according to a police spokesman. The thief demanded the courier spell out his mail route — which police say he did — and then the thief took the master key and fled on foot, according to officials.
The key opens all mailboxes on the carrier’s route, but it is not clear where his route covers, a police spokesman said.
Cops and federal agents swarmed the area shortly after the crime and scrambled to canvas for relevant security camera footage.
The postal worker was not injured, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
