Weekend sweep for Clones

As soon as he finished addressing his club and entered his shoebox of an office at Richmond County Ballpark on Staten Island, Pedro Lopez tore into the cold box of Dominoes pizza sitting on his desk.

After nearly five hours of baseball, twice delayed by lightning and light rain, the Cyclones’ manager was hungry.

“I got a big headache,” he said, holding the cold pizza in his hands. “It was draining more mentally than physically. It was a grind.”

The food, Lopez said, was well worth the wait – and so was the final result. The Cyclones concluded their weekend series sweep of the Baby Bombers with a hard−fought yet sloppy 10−9 win, the team’s seventh victory in its last nine games.
