West Quad facilities debut

It took 50 years, but the “most beautiful college campus in America” now also boasts a handsome, state-of-the-art, athletic and student services wing %u2013 complete with ball courts and a swimming pool open to the community.

Brooklyn College hailed the completion of its first construction project in decades by officially opening the new West Quad Building, 2900 Bedford Avenue, with a ribbon-cutting attended by students, faculty members and local leaders, and proudly conducted by new President Karen L. Gould in her first public ceremony.

Gould, who took office in August, was joined by CUNY Vice Chancellor Iris Weinshall, Borough President Marty Markowitz and Assemblymembers Rhoda Jacobs and Joseph Lentol as she snipped the tape for the state-funded building, which was designed by renowned architect Rafael Vinoly and also features three racquetball courts and a pair of fitness centers.

The facility houses the Department of Physical Education and Exercise Science, and offers “a one stop solution” for student services departments, including the offices of admissions, financial aid and scholarships in addition to registration and the bursar’s office.
