Looking for a home in Brooklyn? Intimidated by the buying process? Just plain curious about how to go about buying a home? Brownstoner’s What First Time Buyers Need to Know: Brooklyn, the second in a series of Brownstoner Home Events, can help.

At the April 30th event at the Brooklyn Historical Society, curious buyers will hear directly from experts about what neighborhoods offer value, how to decide whether to keep renting or to buy and the various options available for financing a home purchase.

Co-op or condo? Row house with rental units? Brian Giambalvo, the Senior Managing Director of real estate firm Citi Habitats, will help you understand the differences, the benefits and the challenges in Brooklyn’s varied housing stock.

Want to know more about locking in your interest rate, how to use a home equity line of credit or just what documents your loan officer will need? Brian Scott Cohen, Sales Manager at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, will clarify the world of mortgages.

A full renovation is too much for most first-time buyers, but a fresh coat of paint can go a long way to make your new apartment feel like home. Kristen Chuber, Senior Director of Marketing at Paintzen, will discuss the ins and outs of freshening up your new home’s look.

Beer and wine, as well as appetizers, will be served at the iconic Brooklyn Historical Society. The 1881 Queen Anne-style building is known for its intricate terracotta façade and remarkable period details, including custom-made bronze hardware, stained glass and acres of beautifully preserved woodwork.

The event will take place at 128 Pierrepont St. in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday, April 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Tickets are $10 but the first 50 people to register will be admitted for free.

The event is sponsored by Citi Habitats, Paintzen, Gotham Brokerage and Wells Fargo. For more information on this and other Brownstoner Home events, click here.
