WHEELS! Man beats friend but loses car

A fight between two men led to one of the men’s car being stolen by a not-so-innocent bystander in a convoluted series of events on Jan. 12.

The incident started off, simply enough, as a disagreement between friends. A 30-year-old man and his 40-year-old buddy were arguing at 6:30 pm on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Fort Greene Place when the older man decided that words could not adequately express his view.

That’s when he went to his black sedan and pulled out what his friend described as a “long object,” and proceeded to bash the younger man in the face with it.

After making his point violently, the man ran away without locking his car, which proved to be a costly mistake, as a man who had been watching the altercation took advantage of the situation, jumping into the car and driving off. The car thief hangs out regularly in the area, according to witnesses, and is known widely as “Dexter,” police said.

The 30-year-old was taken to New York Methodist Hospital by ambulance, although his injuries were not serious. There has so far been no sign of the violent “friend,” the stolen vehicle, or of Dexter.
