Jamestown 12
Cyclones 7
July 18 at MCU Park (15 innings)
Not even the New York’s Bravest could end the Cyclones losing streak, as the Clones fell in 15 innings to the Jammers on FDNY night.
The Jammers and the Cyclones to battle back and forth all night and headed into the ninth tied at six, when Gaither Bumgardner, who had relieved starter Carlos Valdez with one out in the fifth, gave up an unearned run, giving the Jammers the lead.
But the Clones answered in the bottom of the frame, when William Fulmer led things off with a booming home run to center field, tying the game.
That’s how it remained until the 15th, when the Jammers exploded for five runs, getting them the win.
The Cyclones hope to finally end the misery tonight at the beache against these same Jammers. Game time is 6 pm, and we have a feeling our beloved boys will finally break out, thanks to a new player (see notes below).
Ups and Downs
Losing again: The eight-game losing streak the Cyclones is the second-longest in franchise history. The team’s longest streak is nine in 2002.
On top of the lineup: During July 17’s heartbreaking extra-inning loss, eight of the Cyclone’s 10 hits were courtesy of Joe Tuschak, Amed Rosario, and Jhoan Urena, the top three batters in the lineup.
“K”O’d: The Cyclones now have 14 games with 10 or more strikeouts. As of July 18, Cyclones players have struck out 305 times. Outfielder Michael Bernal leads the league with 48 strikeouts.
Welcome aboard: Mets first-round pick Michael Conforto is expected to join the lineup on July 19. Conforto was in Los Angeles for the Golden Spikes Award, which honors the sport’s top college players. A power hitter, the Cyclones look to Conforto to make a huge impact in the lineup.
