Punk’s not dead

Scream your lungs out and raise money to aid political prisoners at Pine Box Rock Shop’s Punk Rock Karaoke. No Neil Diamond here — the song book includes the likes of Fugazi, Minor Threat, Sleater-Kinney, and X-Ray Spex, with new tracks being added all the time.

8 pm at Pine Box Rock Shop [12 Grattan St. between Bogart Street and Morgan Avenue in Bushwick, (718) 366–6311, www.pineboxrockshop.com]. $8.

Preach it

Little-known soul legend Jimmy “Preacher” Ellis has been setting dance floors on fire since the 1960s, but, remarkably, has never played New York City — until now. Ellis will perform songs from all across his long career — much of it for the first time in decades — backed by the Brooklyn Rhythm Band.

Bushwick bop: Jay Johnson and Patrick Tyrrell record the background tracks for punk songs to be sung at their Punk Rock Karaoke nights.

9 pm at Littlefield [622 Degraw St. between Fourth and Third Avenues, in Gowanus, (718) 855–3388, www.littlefieldnyc.com]. $15–$20.

Getting horny

Saxophonist Colin Stetson has an impressive resume — Arcade Fire, Tom Waits, David Byrne, and LCD Soundsystem doesn’t even scratch the surface of the acts he has played with. But at the Grand Victory on Feb. 9. Stetson is going solo. Also breaking free is bassist Trevor Dunn, who has played in Tomahawk, Fantomas, and Mr. Bungle, in addition to projects that don’t involve Mike Patton.

8 pm at the Grand Victory [245 Grand St. between Roebling Street and Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, (347) 529–6610, www.thegrandvictory.com]. $10.

In the Navy

Blowing his own horn: Just like Sid Caesar here, saxophonist Colin Stetson will be getting his woodwind on at the Grand Victory on Feb. 9.

Everyone loves a sea shanty! The Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s production of seafaring opera “Billy Budd” comes to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The critically acclaimed show is directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Grandage and features the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Plus mutinies, floggings, and many swarthy singing sailors.

8 pm at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House [30 Lafayette Ave. between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street in Fort Greene, (718) 636–4100, www.bam.org]. $40–$185.
