A new Sunday flea market set to open on June 14 will give the Southside a match for the Artists and Fleas market in McCarren Park.
Williamsburg Flea Market, located on Wythe Avenue between S. 2nd and 3rd streets, will feature around 40 vendors peddling a wide array of antiques, home furnishings, crafts, clothes, food, books and more.
The diverse spread will be laid out on a 10,000 square foot space that used to house old police cars. In a “Williamsburgy” touch, the space will include objects d’art like a vintage farm tractor, a graffiti tagged van, and a decorated car. Benches will be laid out to maximize the comfort of market denizens, and a DJ will set the mood with music.
Marketing Manager John Paul Hennessy feels the market will play well on the Southside, a neighborhood with a well−known appreciation of DIY (Do It Yourself) culture.
“Foot traffic in the neighborhood is increasing, so there’s definitely a niche for something like this. On Sunday in the summer, people in this neighborhood love to be out and about,” he noted.
Hennessy and his cohorts are looking for more vendors, especially those from the neighborhood.
