Cops cart off a 15-year-old thief caught trying to break into an apartment on Prospect Park West. Police said that the thief and a friend, also 15, were seen scaling the fire escape in the back of the building, located near 13th Street, at about 4 p.m. on June 4. Cops said that when they were called to the scene, they spotted the two males climbing down the fire escape. One of the teens was apprehended as soon as he came off the fire escape ladder. The second one ran back up the fire escape onto the roof and then tried to go down another fire escape. Police arrested the second thief with minimal effort and charged both teens with attempted robbery. Officials said that the teens were trying to open a window to a fourteenth floor apartment when they were spotted. They admitted to “messing with the window” when it suddenly shattered, police said.
