Win streak ends with bad loss in Lowell

Cyclones 2

Spinners 3

Monday, July 12 at Lowell

Starter A. J. Pinera was awesome — for four innings. Pinera yielded just one hit, but was long gone when Jonathan Kountis entered the game in the sixth inning and promptly gave up a walk, a single and a two-RBI single.

The Cyclones got one of those runs back in the seventh, but could have gotten oh so much more after Joe Bonfe led off with a single and Brian Harrison doubled to put men on second and third with no outs. A wild pitch brought in Bonfe, but the bottom of the order sputtered.

The Spinners got that run back in the bottom of the frame to make it 3–1, and the Cyclones’ comeback in the ninth was too little, too late.

The Cyclones managed just four hits — two of them by Darrell Ceciliani, who raised his average to .376.

Thankfully, the Staten Island Yankees lost, too, so the Cyclones remained just one-half game back.

The next Cyclones home game is Wednesday night at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
