A passerby found a woman dead and covered with a blanket in a desolate lot in South Williamsburg.
Police said they responded to a call yesterday at 3:30 pm and found the woman in a lot near the East River, just west of the intersection of Division and Kent avenues. Emergency medical services declared the woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, dead on arrival at Woodhull Hospital.
So far, police have been unable to determine why the woman died, who she was, or who left her on the concrete, covered with an industrial blanket.
That stretch of Kent Avenue is often deserted, especially after business hours.
On Wednesday afternoon, neighbors said they were shocked to hear that a woman was lying dead so close to them.
“This area is usually quiet, so you don’t expect something like that to happen,” said Jose Munoz, who lives nearby. “I hope that girl gets some peace now.”
The city’s medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death while police are trying to figure out her identity.
