Biden does it again. Open mouth, insert foot. It never seems to end.
At a recent fund-raiser, the Vice President was introduced to the Bay State audience by former Vice-President Al Gore. In his marvelous, fantastic speech, (you do remember the joke about fantastic, don’t you?) Biden referred to Al Gore as the man who was elected president, but when all of the totals became blurred, and when a bad decision was made, he did the right thing for the nation. Biden made it sound as if Gore stopped the contest by stepping back. Yeah, right!
Enough already! Gore lost, Bush won, and it wasn’t Al Gore who stopped the counting. After 37 days and nights of examining chads, dimples, and pimples through magnifying glasses, it was the Supreme Court of the United States that finally ended it.
At that time, Dave Wilson was the assistant managing editor of the Miami Herald. He recently wrote a commentary with the title, “The Night The Election Wasn’t Won.” As the newspaper man in charge of what he called “the most unnerving night in American political history” he recalled how George W. Bush and Al Gore were locked in a too-close-to-call race. After reading the story on Sunday, June 9, I e-mailed Mr. Wilson and said that I wish he went a bit further and discussed the fact that the Miami Herald actually did a recount some time later and Bush still came out the winner.
He responded the very next day and stated, “The lengthy and costly review the Herald led was one of the most important civic contributions the newspaper has ever made. We are all proud of it. And the affirmation of Bush’s victory in Florida was definitely a significant piece of the history of that extraordinary election.”
To all of my friends who are still clamoring that Bush stole the election, please stop crying. He didn’t.
Everybody knows that I am not a fan of President Obama, but I must tell you that I pray every day for his good health. Should something happen to him and he has to be replaced, look who becomes the next president.

On the subject of saying the wrong things at the wrong time, some very influential Egyptian politicians were heard over an open microphone on live TV talking about war with their worst enemies, America and Israel. Egypt is just another nation that will take and take and still hate us. Think not? Just a few days before that telecast, Secretary of State John Kerry, with the approval of President Obama, forwarded another $1.3 billion dollars to Egypt. When will those in government on both sides of the aisle ever learn that American taxpayer dollars do not buy friendship?

One night last week, Jay Leno pounded out joke after joke after joke about the IRS audit scandal. Brave Jay deserves a medal for being the most courageous man in America. Me? I love the IRS. I think the people there are wonderful. I am in favor of employees having more conferences and parties in fancy, expensive hotels. Maybe even an increase in salary and a few more days off. I am StanGershbein@Bellsouth.net telling you that I just love the IRS. I’m not taking chances. I’m no fool.
