Staten Island Yankees 3

Cyclones 1

A two-run blast off Cyclones reliever Matthew Bowman lifted the reviled Staten Island Yankees over the Mini Mets on Saturday, leaving Brooklyn’s boys of summer down 2–1 in a four-game series that will end tonight in Coney Island.

Clones designated hitter Jeffrey Glenn got on the board in style at the top of the third frame with a dinger over left field, giving the Cyclones an early lead. But starter Clones Luis Cessa quickly surrendered the lead, allowing an RBI double off the bat of Yanks left fielder Danny Oh in the bottom of the fifth.

Clones skipper Rich Donnelly switched Cessa for Bowman at the top of the sixth, but quickly regretted his decision: the righty out of Princeton immediately gave up a single to Staten Island shortstop Claudio Custodio, then allowed designated hitter Saxon Butler to crush a pitch over right field for a two RBI home run.

But Bowman wasn’t the weakest link in this disaster. The Clones offense failed to deliver throughout, posting just three hits after Glenn’s homer.

The Cyclones are home again at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449–8497, www.brooklyncyclones.com] tonight at 5 pm as they take on the hated Staten Island Yankees.
