Your identity: stolen!

Identity theft is very real and it is happening right here in southern Brooklyn.

That was the message delivered at the recent April meeting of the Concerned Citizens of Bensonhurst, held at the St Finbar’s Confraternity Center at 1825 Bath Avenue.

Brian Matula, branch manager of the Apple Bank at 1975 86th Street, provided residents with advice on how not to become a victim of fraud.

“In the last year alone, between 500,000 to 700,000 Americans fell victim to identify theft,” Matula said. “It will be more this year, and we don’t want anyone in this community to become a victim.”

Captain John Sprague, commanding officer of the 62nd Precinct, also addressed the topic of identity theft.

“What we’re seeing is all through cyberspace. We get a lot of it,” Sprague told the audience. “We don’t see a lot of people actually accessing bank accounts
