Injured Sadewitz says Frontiersmen will rise again

It’s only the most important shoulder in the Brooklyn Kickball League.

The New Frontiersman’s star player, Matt “Marquis De” Sadewitz, is expected to miss six weeks of play, according to league officials, after separating his collarbone during an on-field collision.

“I’ll probably be in the sling for four weeks, but with physical therapy, I will be out for longer,” said Sadewitz, who added that he would not be physically 100 percent for as many as 10 weeks. “I’ll probably be more timid and reserved. Psychological recovery from injuries takes way longer.”

The absence of the former MVP and soul of the New Frontiersmen has many players questioning whether the fifth-ranked team will be able to recover. Nonetheless, his teammates have been gracious.

“We think he’s faking it,” said Benny “Fred” Thomson. “We saw him using a ladder, doing some roofing and then helping two girls with a double-dutch game later that day.”

The schedule for the Frontiersmen is in their favor. The team played no games this weekend due to a scheduled bye and they requested time off during the Fourth of July holiday well before Sadewitz’s injury. No games will be played the following weekend, which is the league’s All-Star weekend, so it is likely that Sadewitz would only miss between four and six games in total.

The legendary Sadewitz believes that the Frontiersmen are a resilient bunch and will overcome his absence in the games ahead.

“The Frontiersmen were unstoppable before I got there, and will continue to be, whether I’m there or not,” said Sadewitz. “All the new people we picked up only made us better, too.”
