15th Harbor Fitness Race

15th Harbor Fitness Race

About 100 runners, and some 25 dogs, turned out for the 15th annual Harbor Fitness Race this past Sunday.

Starting at Harbor Fitness (9215 Fourth Avenue), the 5K race wound its way through Bay Ridge as runners ran along the Verrazano bike path and finished beneath the bridge.

The first place men’s runner was Dan Campos, who finished the 3.1 mile run in 16:02. Close in second was Carlos Sauce (16:06), and in third, his brother, Julio Sauce (17:01). The three are members of the Brooklyn Road Runners, which helped organize the event.

The top three women’s finishers were Amy Florentine (23:34), Ando Sonoku (23:54) and Camille Collett (24:15).

For the first time this year, dog walkers were also invited to participate.

Proceeds from the race went to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which goes towards wounded and disabled war veterans. Just over $2,000 was raised this year.

Honored at this year’s race was Joseph John Hasson III, a member of Harbor Fitness who was killed in the World Trade Center attacks. His family ran in Sunday’s race.
