A.F. Bennett:
Salon of Art & Science, 699 86th St. at Seventh Avenue in
Bay Ridge, (718) 745-3000. A.F. Bennett offers several scalp
therapy services in its Brooklyn location, and a more extensive
array of services at its spa in Staten Island – 350 New Dorp
Lane, (718) 979-9000. Basic facial $75; basic massage $70. Products
used include Phytologie and Arcona hair and scalp therapies.

Area Treatment Center/Emporium: 252 Smith St. bet. Degraw and Douglass streets

Home Spa at Baisley House: 294 Hoyt St. bet. Sackett and Union streets in
Carroll Gardens, (718) 935-1959. Experience spa treatments inside
a 19th-century bed and breakfast. Outdoor rose garden used in
season. Package costs are billed in full at time of reservation.
The "Day at Baisley" ($400) includes meals, teas, a
body massage, facial, hand and foot treatments and a spa product
sampler. One- and two-night packages include meals, teas, services

Il Camelion Salon and Day Spa: 326 Seventh Ave. bet. Eighth and Ninth streets

$80. Uses Aveda products and offers massage therapy, facials,
body treatment and waxing, makeup services, manicures and pedicures.

Irene Dinov:

Oksana’s Beauty Salon/Spa: 7720 Fifth Ave. bet. 77th and 78th streets in

The full service salon and spa offers manicures and pedicures,
facials and massages. Open seven days a week. Cash only.

Opal Center for Massage and Allied Therapies: 158 Fifth Ave. bet. Douglass and DeGraw streets
in Park Slope, (718) 857-6183. Basic 70-minute massage: $75.
Closed Tuesdays. This new company provides Swedish-based massages
from licensed massage therapists-owners Sherry Dietchman and
Sarah Falkner. Sessions are priced according to length, no matter
how many modalities are employed. Series discounts available.

Pilo Arts:

plus; basic massage: $60. Hair salon offering manicures, pedicures,
makeup, facials, waxing, wraps, scrubs and electrolysis. Primary
product line is Decleor. Outdoor garden available in season.
Open seven days a week. Pilo is currently redecorating its spa
facilities after hours, but is still accepting clients during
the three-week transition. Accept Visa and MasterCard. For more

Providence Day Spa: 64 Seventh Ave. bet. Lincoln Place and Berkeley
Place in Park Slope, (718) 623-2844. 53 Wyckoff St. bet. Court
and Smith streets in Boerum Hill, (718) 596-6774. Basic massage:
$75; basic facial (without extractions): $75. Accept MasterCard,
Visa and American Express. In the process of moving their Park
Slope facility from this location to a larger space on Union
Street.

Rompal: 319

Shibumi (at Eastern Athletic Club): 43 Clark St. bet. Henry and Hicks streets in Brooklyn
Heights, (718) 625-0500. Additional locations at New York Marriott
Brooklyn [333 Adams St. bet. Johnson Tech Place and Willoughy
Street, fourth floor, (718) 330-0007] and TriBeCa [80 Leonard
St. bet. Church and Broadway, (212) 966-5432]. Basic facial:
$65; basic massage $72. Use Decleor products. Patrons do not
have to be members of Eastern Athletic, but can use some of the
club’s facilities. [See story on page 11 for details.] Series
discounts available. Offer facials, massage, wraps and waxing.
Brooklyn Heights location is closed Sundays. MetroTech location
to open in three months. Accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard
and Discover.

Studio 19 Salon and Spa: 1610 E. 19th St. bet. Kings Highway and Avenue
P in Midwood, (718) 336-7373. Basic facial: $60; basic massage:
$65. Primarily use Decleor and Sothys products. Currently the
20-year-old Studio 19 is under renovation, but still services
clients every day except Mondays. Renovations should be complete
in four to five weeks. The renovations include six massage rooms,
four facial rooms and a new waiting room for spa clients. Studio
19 offers a hair salon, manicures and pedicures, electrolysis,
waxing, facials, massages and makeup. Accept Visa and MasterCard.

Tantra Spa (at Cavale Tonuzi Salon):
8211 Third Ave. bet. 82nd and 83rd
streets in Bay Ridge, (718) 748-9880. Basic facial $80; basic
massage $80. This location offers an Aveda Lifestyle store, spa
and hair salon. A nutritionist and dermatologist will also be
on staff. This Indian-theme spa is currently under construction
and should open in February, though the hair salon is already
fully operational. Tantra offers a significant series discount.
Services include hair salon, makeup, facials, waxing, manicure
and pedicure, and body treatments including polishes, massages
and wraps. Accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. For

Tapestry: 107
Montague St. bet. Hicks and Henry streets in Brooklyn Heights,
(718) 522-1202. Basic facial: $60; Basic massage: $75. Open Tuesday
through Saturday. Primarily use Decleor products. Services include
facials, massage, waxing, manicures, pedicures and hair salon.
Outdoor garden available in season. Accept Visa, MasterCard and
American Express.

The Spa: 8806
Third Ave. bet. 88th and 89th streets in Bay Ridge, (718) 921-6100.
Basic massage: $65; basic facial: $75. Primarily use Matis products.
Services include medical and pre-natal massages as well as relaxation
massages, body wraps, scrubs, facials, manicures, pedicures and
waxing. Owner and therapist Sheila Brody recommends both an hour-long
heated lava rock massage and the 90-minute Parafango treatment
– which incorporates heated Spanish sea mud and paraffin – to
moisturize and warm the body during winter’s cold months. Open
